someone returned a $500 monitor with rocks instead of the monitor, another guy replaced a $5000 camera with a $400 camera and returned it.

you get the same problems at every major retailer. the other day on the news they were showing security video footage of groups of thieves at target filling boxes and bags with thousands in medication and DVDs.

here's a story, though...we had a group of thieves who were far more organized than the ones they were so panicked about at target. a woman stood in the entry way apparently talking on her phone for 45 minutes. she was actually talking to her accomplices within the store, while watching the security cameras at the front desk (which happens to be facing right out into the parking lot) for patterns. they figured out exactly where the cameras would be at exactly what times. they figured out when our loss prevention guy would turn his head to look away from the door, and how often he'd actually check receipts when the alarm beeped as someone walked out. in and out of the store in under an hour, they walked out with over $15,000 worth of cameras. the old locks on the cases where the cameras were stored had a pressure point, so they could just push that part of the case in and the lock would slip right off.
