watched oprah today, very on target with anyone in the beginning or middle of raising kids. they talked of "losing" themselves, who are they now and where did their old life go. think it's confusing after 5 yrs or under??? what about trying 20-30 yrs of the term "mom" being your identity, and then poof!!!!! you did your job well as ceo of home and they are independent. the house suddenly "down-sized" and your job was cut. try "re-inventing" yourself without using any of the terms associated with mom duties. anyone relate????

My mom is having a hard time right now because I am the baby of the family and I am now a Freshmen in college. I'm doing a lot on my own (living on my own, going places on my own) and it's driving her nuts. She hates it she doesn't know where I am every minute of every day. I'll usually text her if I am going somewhere by myself, but that just makes her worry even more. She can't work because of her health, but she's taken up some hobbies.

Find some hobbies and some people that you can share them with. You've shared your life with your children for all these, so finding something that you can share with someone is going to make it easier. My mom's taken up knitting and gardening and she's made some pretty good friends along the way.
