Hey everyone, so I'm writing a 5 page, 1,000 word essay on a major scandal about priests molesting little kids and some even molesting adults. I have some questions that I Need help with answering, please help me?
1. Why do some priests do it? 2. Why do some churches try to cover up the story? 3. Why don't kids speak out about it? 4. How could this be stopped? 5. Does being a priest provide a home for them to live in and benefits like that? 6. Why aren't priests allowed to have wives or sex when they're a priest? annnnd that's all i can think of right now... Help me please? |

1. Priests are human beings. They do it for the same reason school teachers and little league coaches do it. They have a disordered sexual desire that they act upon. The reason for this is no different from why teachers, little league coaches, boy scout leaders, etc. molest children.
2. Molestation is not something to be proud of, so some try to sweep it under the rug. 3. Kids may not understand sexual contact and feel embarrassed, might think they're at fault, etc. 4. It's hard to find a sexual predator until they act on their disordered fantasies, so the best thing to do would be to educate kids on what is appropriate and inappropriate contact/language and tell them to report any incidents right away. 5. Priests live in a rectory, and receive a stipend. 6. It is a matter of discipline. A priest has dedicated their life to God by watching over his flock. If a priest has a family, his time and attention will be split between his family and his congregation, making him less effective as a shepherd of his flock. that's why i always laugh at Catholicism HAHAHAHAH. full of sick pedophiles. Catholics are no more likely to be sexual predators than teachers, little league coaches, or bus drivers. Wait a minute, aren't you a bus driver? I'd accuse you of being a pedophile, but that's already common knowledge around here. 1. because they're so f*cking sexually repressed that they can't think straight anymore 2. why would they not? any institution would be ashamed of doing something so messed up to children. 3. because they're told not to or embarrassed to. how much they buy into their religion probably has something to do with it too. most people tend to feel like they can, or should, be able to trust their spiritual leader. for all we know they could be brainwashed into thinking that it's what god wants ![]() 1. Then why do some married people molest children? 3. How does this make sense at all? Catholicism does not teach that molestation is acceptable in any stretch of the imagination. |

Catholics are no more likely to be sexual predators than teachers, little league coaches, or bus drivers. I completely agree with this. In fact, I've somewhat recently read that there are just as many (if not more) Baptist related incidents. Catholics are merely getting the most publicity. Sexual repression certainly can fuel the fire, but by no means should it be defined as an exclusive cause. I understand that in many cases, one might come to the conclusion that molestation is the product of being raised by "the village." However, there are plenty of educational factors that should negate any type of sentiment that molestation of any type is acceptable. |
