i don't even know if anyone here is interested in architecture. if you are, or if you just happen to run across some you like, post it here (unless you feel like making a whole topic for it). buildings, houses, whatever you like.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Falling Water:
Falling Water is about two and a half hours from where I grew up, and I got to go see it a few years ago. It's a pretty impressive house. Wright's careful attention to detail really impressed me. For example, some parts of the house have glass running up almost the entire wall (both floors!); the edges of the floor (on the second floor) actually angle inwards, so you can't see the floor from the outside very well. Wright thought that this helped increase the elegance of the glasswork. He also had custom desks built so that they could fit neatly into the walls in some of the rooms. It's that attention to detail that I find even more impressive than the fact that the house is built over a waterfall. When I was a kid, I really wanted to be an architect. It seemed like the best way to combine math, engineering, and art. |

When I was a kid, I really wanted to be an architect. It seemed like the best way to combine math, engineering, and art. i know exactly what you mean. i started out as an architecture major before i switched to art. part of me still wants to be one, but i suppose not enough to keep me from changing majors. i like falling water too. it was one of the first ones that got me more interested in houses and away from just buildings. |
