i really don't understand how a flock of birds caused a plane to malfunction.. but at least everyone made it out alive.

Bird strikes are actually remarkably dangerous to airplanes. They can damage things like wings, rudders, or the windshield, and if a bird gets sucked into a jet engine (more common that you might think), it can totally destroy the engine. Consider the physics: A plane is flying at several hundred miles per hour relative to other objects, so anything that hits it is going to hit with a lot of force. |
