Watched it last night, and I was impressed how good it was coming from a German producer. Anyone who watched it want to explain this part.

Was the man who was helping out the little girl, her dad or boyfriend? Because I think she is only 12 years old forever, because that was when she got infected. So technically she must be ALOT older than 12, but just looks 12.

I also want to know why they found it necessary to show the 12 year old girls vagina? Child porn? That was disturbing. I didn't see why they needed to show that part. Was the purpose to show that she really was a girl?

It was directed by a Swedish dude. It was also based on a Swedish novel. ;)

The man was her guardian, as far as I can remember. I need to reread the novel (which is even more graphic than the film).

The genitalia scene can be difficult to watch, but I paid more attention to theme than I did the visual, in the sense that love between two individuals can transcend gender. Also, countries like Sweden aren't so prudish regarding what is and isn't shown. I guess audiences there have a thicker skin and overall more liberal sensibilities.

Like I said in the best of 2008 thread, the film completely blew me away. I watched in online (wha? :P) and was glued to the monitor the entire time.
