I've tried looking for eyebrow pencils (or powders or gels) but the darkest they get are brown. I know you're supposed to use one shade lighter than your hair, but would it look right to use brown pencil with black hair?

It doesn't matter too much what colour hair you have, but it's a general rule of thumb for those with dark hair to go with a brow shade 2-3 shades lighter than your natural hair, and those with light/blonde hair to go 2-3 shades darker.

It's safe to stick with a medium-to-dark taupe/greyish brown colour to fill in brows. Trust me, it won't look weird on black hair. The one thing you might want to stay away from are colours that are too saturated/too warm. You're Asian, right? I would say for Asians with black hair, a brown would be a better bet unless you're very dark.

Although, if you have very dense eyebrows to begin with, a very dark brown would probably be fine, but even then I would stay away from black unless you were VERY careful about it. And be especially careful if you have fine, light eyebrows like me; from my personal experience it's better to go lighter than darker. You don't want to look like Groucho Marx.
