I submitted a really good layout but It was rejected. The person (I forgot their username lol) said that the image quality was a little low and that the links were not userfriendly. That is the layout but if you would like to see it live just go to my site. I'm using it on there. For the image, do I need to host it some place other than photobucket? like Imagshack? For the links, Does the person mean change the color? or what? I don't understand that part. I messaged the person asking them those exact two questions. Thanks for the help in advance! :) [[erin]] |

Your best advice in this situation, as well as future situations, when you recieve something back from a mod, in this case, your layout was rejected by a design staff member, reply back to the PM that you received and ask them to further their explanation of why it was rejected. For me, the colors of the layout and the editing done to the image don't compliment each other very well, and it makes the layout look very unappealing. As for the links, I don't think they meant to use the word user friendly, as they are easy to use, and not hard to find. But there is hardly any editing done to them, just some html editing.

I'm not that stupid, GOSH! For me, the colors of the layout and the editing done to the image don't compliment each other very well, and it makes the layout look very unappealing. Ok like i said I'll change them. As for the links, I don't think they meant to use the word user friendly, as they are easy to use, and not hard to find. But there is hardly any editing done to them, just some html editing. What else can I do to them?-I'm using HTML and that's all I'll EVER use.-I mean I can change the color (which is what I was planning to do after I got my domain name up) and add a background but why add a backgruond color that will just look weird on this layout. _______________________________________________________________________ Everyone on the forums needs to take a chill pill and realize that not everyone is as good as a designer as they are. They should compliment the good things in the layouts or graphics instead of dragging the people down with the bad things that they did. Everyone here is just too uptight and is never nice to people like me who may not have as much expeirence in website design or creating any graphic or layout. You guys are so mean sometimes. |

I know that there are some people that aren't as nice as others but that's the price you have to pay when you showcase your work. I'm not sure if you read the Showcase Booth: Guidelines and Rules of Conduct thread, but you should. There are going to be people that like your work & people who won't & they will tell you what they don't like. It's all a part of becoming a better designer. You have to start from somewhere. I can relate to you because I was in your position when I first started to make graphics & stuff. With the criticism from the design staff & members on here, I learned new techniques & made my graphics better. Whenever I review your work, I try to be as nice as possible, along with the other members. So don't see it as someone bashing your work. Instead see it as a second pair of eyes telling you what you could do to improve your designs. /long ass response that no one will read |

You won't improve at all that way, which is what you and everyone else wants to see. Sure, some people will focus only on the negative, but you should still take their comments into consideration because that's what'll help you see mistakes or areas of improvement in your designs. On to the actual layout. The website link didn't work for me, so I can't tell if the image quality problems are just because you sized down the screenshot or if the layout's image itself is bad quality; it seems like a bit of both. Are you using Photoshop? If so, are you saving for web? Try saving it as a .png or .jpeg with maximum quality; it might be compressed too much. I like the concept of it, but I think you could have chosen better colors for the background and the border around the main content and menu. I also think the layout would look better centered, because the border goes all the way around the image. A repeating background would also make it more interesting, as long as it fits with the layout. I can't comment on the links because I can't see the site, but I think the mod might have meant that it's hard to tell your links from regular text (I'm looking at "topsite, myspace, forums," etc). I'm probably wrong, though. |
