have you ever had to write an essay with extensive footnotes?

my professor for my art humanities class basically said "make sure you add a lot of footnotes!" without elaborating on what exactly she wants in the footnotes. i'm not exactly sure how i should go about doing this.

all the "how to write footnotes" websites i look at tell me it's pretty much just an in-text citation with the reference at the bottom of each page, but all the art articles i read usually include some type of brief description or blurb about the article/reference/etc in their footnotes.

do u know 'bout dis? ph34r.gif

THERE ARE STYLES???

man, i never had to write footnotes before. i remember asking her how she wanted the footnotes and she said "just write a lot of them."

just like when i asked her how long this paper had to be (i heard 8, 10, 12, and 17), she said "just write as much as you think you need!"

In what style do you have to write your bibliography/works cited? That'll generally help you out with what to include in your footnotes.

And yeah, I've had to do that before, write a paper with footnotes when I didn't have too much experience. Coming from an English major using MLA (since you do in-text citations with those, you don't need footnotes) to having to use Chicago for a couple of Africana Studies courses, it was frustrating. But footnotes are awesome because they make your papers look longer than they actually are shifty.gif

I hate professors who tell you to write how much you think you need. It's so aggravating! It's like, tell me what you want (what you really really want), don't be so damn vague. But hey, I at least got to write a 3 pager for a final paper once.
