Would it be acceptable for me to go to junior prom with one of my best friend's exes?

I know my friend still has feelings for him and they broke up on good terms (because of school, not because they had problems between them) but they're not together anymore.. He asked me to prom as friends (we're best friends, too) but I don't know if I should go or not. I don't want to hurt my friend but at the same time, her ex is one of my best friends, too, and I DO want to go to prom.

I can't just ask her about it because we're not THAT great of friends. I'm friends with her through association--my best friends are friends with her.. so if I upset her, I upset my best friends too. I can't really talk to them about it either because I don't know if I'm way out of line for even considering it. =/

Help?

Yeah I guess they'd be mature enough but she would say it was okay even if it wasn't. And I actually DO want to go, me and him are best friends... and we were best friends before they started going out.

A little background: They broke up once before because she thought he had feelings for me. I don't want to add to the situation (especially because they're on good terms now) even though there really WASN'T anything between us at ALL.
