QUOTE "Are religionists so thin-skinned they must squelch free debate? One small freethought billboard in the immense state of California is such a threat to insecure religious egos that it must be censored? I support freedom of religion and all, but I don't see any billboards advertising other religions. So...I guess it's only fair? |

You are free to believe whatever you want, but you don't have to advertise that you believe in nothing. well when you're a minority & feel discriminated against & intimidated by a whole culture love drunk stupid off of religion... it may actually help some people to realize that there are a lot of other people who don't believe in god... and, instead, believe in themselves, or science, or film, or genetically engineered crops, or whatever. in the grand scheme of things, atheists have a metric f*ck ton more reason to advertise & promote themselves in comparison to say, organized religion; most atheists don't have the option of scaring little kids into their beliefs with stupid fairy-tales. further, religion is everywhere... nearly everybody prescribes you... you f*ckers don't need a damn billboard, we do. |

I dont think that religion dominates the US. I think the opposite actually. Everywhere you look you see sex, drugs, harsh language. Everything that western religions do not tolerate. Even now with Prop 8, people are trying to overturn something that was voted in by the people. If that isnt imposing on people then I dont know what is. I dont agree with the Billboard being taken down. I mean, I dont really care. Cause if enough people complain about something, then usually something is done about it. If a Christian billboard sign was taken down because people complained, I wouldnt be complaining either. I dont think either need it really. Cause Billboards dont really sway people either way. EDIT: Except for the stupid ones. |

I dont think that religion dominates the US. I think the opposite actually. Everywhere you look you see sex, drugs, harsh language. Everything that western religions do not tolerate. oh shut the f*ck up, christians get all hard on that shit; your religion is about self-pity, self-loathing, and admitted unworthiness! it's a guilt fetish! not to mention, religion is socially constructed... obviously. with moving trends society, religion is bound to change (as we have seen). just because a catholic doesn't give too many shits about sex or the "f" word doesn't mean that they aren't still a component of a religiously dominated ideology. Even now with Prop 8, people are trying to overturn something that was voted in by the people. If that isnt imposing on people then I dont know what is. civil rights > popular vote. are you f*cking retarded? it took the supreme court to say that people of different races could marry... it nearly took a war to decide that black people couldn't be owned by white people... you want to talk about the imposition of people? consider the civil inequalities constantly and consistently attacked by religious fundamentalists and ignorant f*cking hicks. it's called the f*cking constitution you jackass. Cause Billboards dont really sway people either way. it's about letting people know that they're not alone. you f*cking idiot. it's not there to convince people of anything... EDIT: Except for the stupid ones. yeah... & the major religions already got those people. |

My religion is not about self-pity, self-loathing, and admitted unworthiness. Ya, religion changes with society, but it doesnt change the religion. Christianity is still the same as it always has been... A catholic probably does care about sex.. but they have different ways of going about it. The US is full of atheistic things.. like sex and all that stuff that dominates the society... You cant say that you dont see things like that everywhere you go QUOTE civil rights > popular vote. are you f*cking retarded? it took the supreme court to say that people of different races could marry... it nearly took a war to decide that black people couldn't be owned by white people... you want to talk about the imposition of people? consider the civil inequalities constantly and consistently attacked by religious fundamentalists and ignorant f*cking hicks. it's called the f*cking constitution you jackass. Wtf since when is sex an atheistic thing All religions and non-religious groups engage in sex. Obviously, or humanity would cease to exist. Quite frankly, Catholics and Mormons greatly encourage it, though it may be for procreation. What do you mean by "all that stuff that dominates the society"? |

Sex before marriage is not, which Im sure you are aware of. Nor is sexual promiscuity or baring too much skin. Like... foul language, sex, drugs, alcohol.. all that stuff. |

Like... foul language, sex, drugs, alcohol.. all that stuff. it might not be the "christian thing to do" but it's the christians who do it more than anyone else, or else it wouldn't be that way. the majority of america is christian...soooooooo if america is too sexed and drugged up then it can't be that way without a whole lot of christians partaking in it. a minority can't make it that way. the majority of people i know who have sex, cuss, do drugs and drink are christian because the majority of people i know are christian. that translates up to a bigger scale of america. |

Sorry but you are wrong. Christians may partake in it because I know some who do. (Not myself but some of my friends) But they are not activaly partaking in everything that the Bible says is wrong. This is the common argument that athiests use.. but Christians are not perfect. Ya, we make mistakes just like everyone else but we are making a consious effort not to. Actual Christians try to adhere to the Bible.. and most actually do. There are some people in the US who claim to be "Christians" but do have sex outside of marriage, have one night stands, dont attend church, curse like a sailor, drink, ... but Christians are not supposed to. So, are they really Christians? Only God is to judge, but I dont think so. How can you be affiliated with a religion if you are making no effort to live by the religions rules? Not only with Christianity, I bet it is the same in the East with their religions. But in the US Ive noticed people have a tendency to call themselves Christians and not obey God in the slightest. It gives a bad name to the Christians who actually do. Like my Aunt. She is a strong democrat.. im not bashing democrats (right now) but they hold beliefs that dont agree with the Bible in the slightest. Her, as well as a lot of my extended family, are mean to me and my parents and exclude us from events and their lives because we are Christians. She doesnt attend church, doesnt read the Bible but still claims she is Catholic. I dont think she is, she doesnt make any effort to live by Catholic standards. |
