So, political discourse has been showing up more and more the closer and closer we get to November. As a result, I've decided that this thread should exist. All political arguments that relate to the elections (and the candidates) should find their home here, more or less.
Who do you think should run America? Why? What direction do you think America is going in, as a country? What direction do you think we should go in? Why? Support your arguments with evidence and details, make citations, try to have fun; no spamming, character bashing, etc. etc. |

Obama and McCain both have a sense of humor. They both seem like nice people who could run the country, with opposition from the opposite party and high regards from their own. I mean, I agree with Obama on more subjects and think he'd lead this country much better, but I also believe that McCain wouldn't be any worse than what we already have. Hell, McCain would be a step up from the monstrosity we currently call our president.
But the thing is, for me, is this: If McCain gets elected we will remain going the same direction we currently are. If Obama gets elected, there's a chance... a hope that things could improve. The truth is, McCain has run one of the worst presidential campaigns in modern history. Palin is what hurt him the most, I think. If not for her, I wouldn't care if McCain got elected. The people who say McCain is a perfectly healthy seventy-two year old man are wrong. He smoked two packs of cigarettes a day for decades. He's had multiple fights with cancer. What if, one day, it shows up again and he can't fight it off? Then we're stuck with the brilliant* hockey mom, Sarah Palin. If he had picked a different, more competent person to be his running mate, I think he could've won. But the chances of that, now, are slim to none. He has to win the remaining toss up states and steal some states that Obama already has. I really think that, on that great day in January, the first (half) African American president will take the seat where he rightfully belongs--in the oval office. *italics denote sarcasm |
