So, political discourse has been showing up more and more the closer and closer we get to November. As a result, I've decided that this thread should exist. All political arguments that relate to the elections (and the candidates) should find their home here, more or less.
Who do you think should run America? Why? What direction do you think America is going in, as a country? What direction do you think we should go in? Why? Support your arguments with evidence and details, make citations, try to have fun; no spamming, character bashing, etc. etc. |

QUOTE Paperplane, Im regurgitating every Republican talking point? Ive actually broken away from the norm. You unfortunately have not managed to think for yourself or get properly educated on the issues and you just "regurgitate" what the liberal media and liberal society is feeding you. Obviously, its not "popular" to be a republican/conservative by any means. How am I vilinizing any one by calling them a liberal? I classify people's party by the issues they stand by. And you and brooklyneast05 have liberal views. I didnt say it is a dirty word, its just a classification. Not the norm where I live. I live in the south, and you sound like everyone here. Conservatism is most definitely popular, being liberal is taboo. The society I live in is not at all liberal, so there's pretty much no way I'm regurgitating what the "liberal society" is feeding me. But really, you've got the Republican talking points down, whether it's the norm where you live or not. There's nothing special about being Republican in Democratic territory if you're just going to take everything the Republicans you say for truth. You didn't say it's a dirty word, but that doesn't mean you're not treating it like one, and that I don't see it used as such on a daily basis. (Also note that I'm not proposing anything here, just debating the points you make.) QUOTE Actually, illegal immigrants can vote. Its called voter fraud. Which is happening quite a bit right now in a number of states, 13 to be exact. ACORN, a "non-biased" group which is endorsing Barack Obama, which recieves federal funds and money from outside groups (Almost a million from Obama himself) has been allegedly registering people more than once, registering names such as "mickey mouse" and deceased people. A man claims that ACORN paid him to register 72 times. People off the streets are registering in exchange for cigaretes. You think that illegal immigrants are going to be checked for American citizenship while registering w/ groups like these? Hell no. This has already been covered, but you really ought to do better research before espousing these things. Just because you're an oh-so-rebellious conservative does not mean you can simply ignore what you don't want to hear from the big bad "liberal media." I can send in voter registrations all day long, it doesn't mean that all my fake applications will be registered. Do you really have that little faith in the quality of our voting system? I applied for an absentee ballot, and got my request rejected because my signature didn't match. If they're picky enough to reject my perfectly valid request for an absentee ballot because my signatures didn't match, there is no way in hell they're going to let people vote without even checking their citizenship. Really, think before you repeat. QUOTE I am very sympathetic to those worse off than me. But Im not sypathetic to those who break our laws. We need to tighten the hell out of our borders. You say its not the "illegals" faults for accepting the jobs that people give them. Well, if they werent there in the first place than they wouldnt be getting jobs then would they? The people handing out those jobs should be held accountable. Im going to say this again, that you have a liberal perspective of "Its not their fault, they didnt KNOW what they were doing, they had to break the laws to have a better life and now we will just have compassion on the criminals and BAIL THEM OUT." Ya, BAIL THEM OUT. Does sound familiar, huh? Its a nice little phrase. Hi, yeah, not what I said at all. PS McCain supported the recent bailout and is still soft on illegal immigrants by Republican standards. Well, at least traditionally. I'm not too sure what his position is these days, since he's taken to pandering to the far right. Hang on, so you don't trust candidates' websites (I'm with you there; they should be visited to see the platform, but be supplemented by other sources, preferably of the nonpartisan variety), but you reject anything the media says because it's liberal? So what do you read? Any conservative blog you happen to come across on google and agree with? Whatever your daddy shows you?* No? Let me guess... All of them? *my father and grandfather send me every anti-Obama email forward they come across, youtube videos on how much the Democrats suck, conservative columns, and today things taken from McCain's website. just for the record. |
