I know what you mean actually, LOL. It's different for me, though, since I don't use AIM - I see an animation when someone's typing, and it turns gray if they randomly stop. It is annoying, because you're like "WAIT NO YOU DON'T GET TO CHANGE YOUR MIND WHAT WERE YOU GOING TO SAY" or something.
