Deleting Spam and Rude Posts Options

I have run across a few spam posts or rude posts while looking through the forums. Yesterday I clicked the "report" button to notify staff that there was a dumb chain letter post. 3 mods responded and told me that the issue happened a long time ago and has been taken care of.

If it has been taken care of a long time ago, then why is the lame post still there? Why don't mods just delete it? It makes the forums look trashy when there are old spam posts laying around.

I am not blaming the mods or pointing fingers or anything. You guys do a good job at stopping the people who are spamming, but I just don't get why you leave all the evidence after the person has been banned.

Does anyone agree with me?...

i know im new here, and i know mods everywhere on every website do the best they can to prevent these things, but why not delete very rude things like say... racism? so im hispanic. lets say someone on here posted mean things about hispanics. dont you think it would offend me a little bit? and i bet there are others on this site, too. not trying to be all smart alecky, im just wondering what you would do if it happened... (which it probably, or hopefully wont happen )
