I just want an outside opinion of what people back home think is going on in Iraq and Afghanistan. Talking to a friend via satellite phone made me realize that a lot of people, all around the world, are completely clueless as to the politics, the hostility, and the way of life for military and DoD personnel. I don't have all the answers, not by a long shot. I'm sure he can throw in his two cents as well, but I've learned a whole lot in the job I have now.
Ask away. |

Have all of the Australians been pulled out yet? Not at all. They're still here, and they somehow smuggle in alcohol and get wasted in their tents. Aussies are cool to chill with. QUOTE Is it at all like Jarhead? jarhead was overly dramatic, and the media isn't dumb enough to talk to Marines that obviously look angry. The Generals and public affairs officers handle that. Although, I was in Kuwait at Ali Al Salem, right by where the oil fields were burned. There's a lot of boredom here. When you go outside the wire, you strap up, but the worse you have to worry about on base is mortars. We narrowly avoided a couple yesterday morning on my way to chow. |
