A Jr. High School is making headlines about giving birth control to it's students (article is here)What is your stance on providing Jr. High students with condoms and birth control? Should it only be the parents responsibility?

I'm on the fence about this.
Giving birth control pills and condoms can be seen as the school promoting sexual activity. They are promoting safe sex, but it's sex nonetheless. And in a way, the Jr. High is saying that it's okay to have sex that young. Kids are more comfortable about sex when they are not with their parents. I don't know anybody who would be okay with asking their parents for birth control presciptions. But middle school kids are still minors, so legally and technically, their parents do have a say. Sadly, sex isn't reserved for high schoolers and adults anymore. The fact that middle school kids are participating in sex is unfortunate. But it can't be ignored.. So..I don't know. I guess if these kids really can't control their raging hormones, then I'd rather see them have sex safely. |
