A Jr. High School is making headlines about giving birth control to it's students (article is here)What is your stance on providing Jr. High students with condoms and birth control? Should it only be the parents responsibility?

this isn't just about giving BC out in schools; it's about our overall attitude towards reproductive health & women's bodies. personally, i don't think that there should be any age restrictions/mandatory parental consent laws with regards abortion, birth control, or anything else relating to reproductive rights. i am fully pro-choice and believe that a woman has the right to decide what to do with her own body.
i also believe that abstinence-only sex ed is terribly misleading and has absolutely no place in our schools. comprehensive sex ed is the way to go. and contraceptives are not the only thing we need to talk about; we need to talk about what exactly sex IS to how teenage pregnancies more often than not occur in relationships where the girl is being abused or in a situation where she has been raped. i believe that we should absolutely hand out condoms in schools; birth control is for the OB/GYN to figure out. |
