I always see messages of people who don't listen to hip hop but they're favorite artist is Justin Timberlake.
Not only this, but Rap inside the Hip Hop genre is the reason you're favorite artist has artistic freedom to say whatever he pleases. You should be thanking hip hop even if you don't like it. Or maybe you do like it but you're unaware of it. Especially if you turn your television set to America's Best Dance Crew. Hip Hop has probably had the biggest influence on the American culture as well, more than you would like to believe. I could elaborate more but I'm going to leave it at that. |

yeah i've known people who say they can't stand hip hop music, but then one of their favorite bands will be linkin park too.
i think a lot of people would like hip hop, but like you said, they are unaware. the majority of people i've ever met who have an irrational hate of hip hop don't even really know what they're talking about. they only hear whatever happens to be on the radio, and can't fathom that something else could exist that might be a bit different. for some reason some people can't grasp the concept of multiple "kinds" of hip hop, although they can understand that there are different kinds of every other genre that exists. that confuses me. hip hop (as a genre & as a culture) has influenced so much, we couldn't even list it all out if we tried probably. |

this is very true and it's having such a huge influence in other genres as well like country and rock. Yeah you're seeing more collaborations of rock and hip hop which is I think is cool. yeah i've known people who say they can't stand hip hop music, but then one of their favorite bands will be linkin park too. i think a lot of people would like hip hop, but like you said, they are unaware. the majority of people i've ever met who have an irrational hate of hip hop don't even really know what they're talking about. they only hear whatever happens to be on the radio, and can't fathom that something else could exist that might be a bit different. for some reason some people can't grasp the concept of multiple "kinds" of hip hop, although they can understand that there are different kinds of every other genre that exists. that confuses me. hip hop (as a genre & as a culture) has influenced so much, we couldn't even list it all out if we tried probably. I agree especially as a culture hip hop has changed so many perspectives as you mentioned it would be inconceivable to mention them all. I looove hip-hop, pop, R&B, etc. Not many of my friends do, though. bahahaha, me too. i think it's funny. i absolutely love hip hip & rnb and everything else. most of the people i know just think hip hop is just rap. T_T Yeah most people I see post think that Hip Hop only consists of rap but however do not realize there is far more to the hip hop genre than just music itself. And LOL @ Jay in the sig, where is that from? ^ Jay-Z and a familiar British guy (from the UK original version of The Office) ? (referring to your sig, of course) Oh, and, yes KC I think someone, possibly even you have made a topic on this. I already knew. Of course, many genres of music have influenced other music. Why else are there so many different genres, beats, etc etc. If people didn't take little snippets from everywhere else, then all music would be a bore. *votes most significant Music topic on cB of 2008 It's funny 'cause when you look at hip hop's roots, it was hip hop that was sampling and borrowing from all the other genres. So in the end hip hop as a music was influenced heavily by such things as soul , rock , etc. but then originated into its own style. The thing is people think Kanye started this sampling of soul artist however its been around for many years. Sampling is one of the best things to happen to music in my opinion and one of the unique aspects of hip hop. You can take a piece of a song and turn into a nice beat or you can use a voice as well for example: Rap songs that sample other Rap songs Tribe Called Quest - I Left My Wallet in El Segundo (Vampire Mix)” (Sampled Song)/ Lil Wayne - A Milli http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DMWVxVWeos...feature=related (this one shows how you actually get the a milli, pretty neat, best sample ever. ) Beastie Boys - Paul Revere (probably one of the biggest samples in hip hop, its been sampled countless times) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-x-MRWZar0g Kia Shine - Krispy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-Vc_yXVyXw Omarion - Damn (samples Paul Revere and Tipsy) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUMxaTxluEI Rick Ross ft. Tpain - The Boss http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iriq2tqhNBk Jadakiss - Put Your Hands Up (Sampled Song/ I'll let you find the sampled part) Birdman ft. Lil Wayne - Pop Bottles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eH0McYv1pXI Young Jeezy - I got Money (Sampled Song, again look for it) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgXNsqvenEs Kanye West - Can't Tell Me Nothing youtube.com/watch?v=CY2Wv4zaGIU Even though hip hop samples songs it also samples itself as well. Pretty neat huh. Songs and Samples Major Harris - I got Over Love (Sampled Song) <-- Im da best man I deed it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4RwlDzgBQM Dipset - I really Mean It http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sh79atSxjt0 Chic - Will You Cry (Sampled Song) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hh5ZkyjsjA4 Nas - Just A Moment youtube.com/watch?v=P7Z2ueL9kPk Edgar Winter - Dying to Live (Sampled Song) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfPy4KwuujE 2pac ft. Biggie - Running (Dying to live) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsx7XC5UC1E Edwin Birdsong - Cola Bottle Baby (Sampled song) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sklZ-f6Wstw Daft Punk - Harder Better Faster Stronger (Samples beat) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgBgnoEY4iM Kanye West - Stronger (Samples voice of Harder Better Faster Stronger) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRcd7chBY8c We have a sample on top of a sample. And the strange thing about this one is people get upset that Kanye sampled this song from Daft Punk when Daft Punk is probably one of the kings of sampling. But Kanye can still make a hot beat without sampling I.E. - "Get Em High" And I want someone to guess who sampled this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DoMQZPVHKY That's Ricky Gervais. I'm assuming that's from Gervais' show Extras, though =\ He also works with hip-hop producers, but that's besides the point. Mainstream music being what it is, the lines between hip-hop/pop/rock blur A LOT. Even though someone like Kanye West is decidedly hip-hop, the massive amount of appeal he has makes him a pop artist. CO-SIGN. Even KRS-One says he considers Kanye to be more pop than hip hop. |
