he's my boyfriend-ish type person i guess; he asked me out and we're going on a date soon. i like him most of the time, like when he's sweet. like the other day he wrote a song for me because i was upset, and it made me feel so much better. but he can be so immature and sometimes i just think he's annoying. i don't know, am i being too picky? i know you can't change someone, so i'm not going to try to. what should i do?

Depending on how much you like this person, you should probably focus more on the things about him that make you happy.

I mean, there has to be something about you he doesn't like. Be fair.

You seem to be thinking too far into the future. Just focus on the date first, and then see where you guys go from there. He might prove to be a totally mature and dashing gentleman after all.
