QUOTE(orionpax @ Jun 19 2004, 10:34 AM) well just imagine if the governement DIDNT set the age limit. kids who dont know better would think "hey there isnt a limit, sex should be fine," rather then going "god, this is illegal, maybe i shouldnt go thru with it," i'm all for the notion that governments know crap sometimes but i think that having rules like that sometimes help lessen the risk of kids who dont know better meddling in things that can bring about such severe consequences. There is no Constitutional basis for sex laws. Those are "victimless crime laws" -- they punish things that (a) are voluntary, (b) are nonviolent, © should be legal, and (d) aren't. These laws help explain why the USA has 0.75% of its population in jail -- more than any other country in the world -- and why the United Nations kicked us off the HUMAN RIGHTS COMMITTEE. The fact that people are sexually mature by early teens demonstrates that biologically, teenagers are competent to make that decision. The only valid sex laws in a civilized society ought to be directed towards pedophilia -- i.e. preying on people BEFORE PUBERTY (non-sexually mature). |
