Tomorrow, Tuesday (well I guess later on today), we are putting down my dog Casey. He has lived a very long life, about 14 years, but it is still really hard. He has lost control of his bowel movements (ie, he shits in the house sometimes) and has difficulty standing up and sitting down, his back legs are giving out. My parents are leaving for Mexico next week and then my sister and I are both going out town so they didn't want a)for him to get worse and us to have to deal with this by ourselves and b)to have to pay for someone to take care of him and then have him get worse/die without us there. I am just so upset and don't think it's his time to go :(

Has anyone had to put their beloved pet, dog or not, down?

rachel i totally understand what you're feeling. 3 years ago my dog lady was in that same situation. she couldn't control her bowel movements so we put a diaper on her. she was losing control of her legs so when i took her out to do her business outside i'd have to carry her, and hold her back side up while she did her business.

we took her to the vet thinking she'd have be put down, so we gave her a really good dinner w/ a t-bone steak the works. but when we got to the vet she said that because she still has an appetite and she was alert she let us take her home.

but after my sisters came home that christmas right after they left, she got worse. she was our dog since i was little. it was really hard...i would've done anything to keep her alive. but, it was her time. i mean i had to realize that it was the best for her because what kind of life is it for a dog who can run around and play.

i'm sorry for whats going on. stay strong my dear. <33
