M. Night needs to stop writing his own movies; he sucks at it.
Otherwise, this was a pretty decent flick. I enjoyed the urgency in the situation and was pleased with the sort of allegorical and cautionary tale - until, of course, I realized that the symboling was light and that a literal story was being told. It panders to the audience, it makes no sense (who cares?), and, worst of all - it tries to scientifically explain the premise of the film, which is unbelievably... unbelievable. M. Night, for supposedly enjoying "mystery" so much really sucks it all the f**k out of his films. Mark Wahlberg was awesome. Zooey was strangely attractive and enjoyable (despite the fact that her performance equated to her widening her eyes and having her mouth agape). Way f**king better than The Sixth Sense (which is a shit kicker excuse for a film), not as shining as Unbreakable or The Village, but... cooler than Signs. |
