Adopting is definately the way to go. Never ever buy from a pet store. If you just simply must buy a dog go to a reputable breeder. Because if your going to spend the big bucks to get your little yorkiepoo or whatever you should at least make sure it comes from good stock and won't have any genetic flaws. I love dogs, and would love to one day breed Westies and Scotties, but for the moment I have my pound puppy.
He looks adorable. I am usually allergic to cats, but I haven't ever had any issues with mine. I think it is either because he is strictly indoor or because he has a slightly different kind of hair than other cats I've known. (He's a Maine Coon X Siamese so his hair is kind of long). When you get him definately get him a bath as soon as you can. I know it sounds strange, but if you have allergies you're going to want to get all the shelter crap off of him. I usually wash mine with the spray hose on the kitchen sink. Just restrain him and put it up really close to his skin with low water pressure. And talk to him. I usually wash mine every couple of months. Of course I didn't start washing him until he was almost a year old, so you should have an easier time of it. Oh, and also see if you can get any kind of antibiotic from the shelter when you pick him up. I don't know about your shelter, but the one I got my dog from had things like kennel cough running rampant so they always gave you an antibiotic to give for the first couple of weeks to kill any colds they may have picked up. But good luck! If you have any questions feel free to ask. |
