I don't really remember that, but I've matured since then? I'm honestly very open minded when it comes to music. I don't automatically hate listening to things because they're on charts either, but I generally don't consider them good music.
I'm not familiar with Lupe Fiasco, but when I say originality I don't so much mean that it hasn't been influenced by other things, or that it sounds completely unlike anything else. More that something contain elements of creativity and isn't completely trite. The lyrics of "Love In This Club" sound like a conglomeration of every top 40 song, which would be fine on its own because very little is original, but musically it's no better. And I know this is all a matter of opinion, but you cannot say something that isn't lyrically or musically amazing is better than anything I listen to just because it's popular, when I listen to some very good lyricists and musicians. You don't have to care or like them. But I do find it demeaning to anyone who writes their own music and plays instruments to say that they've worse than Usher. So your logic was flawed when you tried to add comparative values to anything I listen to versus Usher; it's subjective and doesn't work. |
