What is the best technique for indexing a new site in google?

I have been using social bookmarking with good success, but I was wondering what everyone else is doing.

patience and popularity.
it doesn't take more than a week to have a site show up in Google, but it takes months for it to get popular. what i suggest doing it research what people are searching for, and how your site compares to those keywords. try seobook's firefox extension, rank checker. you can type in a domain and a keyword, and see what number your domain is listed at for that keyword in Google, Yahoo & MSN. the more clicks you get into your site from a certain keyword, the higher you'll climb.

also take advantage of Google Analytics and especially Google Webmaster's Tools. submit a site map to Google so its robots can find all of your pages easily. there are many websites out there that will build a site map for you, or you can do it manually (Google Web Tools has a guideline for this).

better search rankings is also determined by how well-designed your website is. you'll rank higher if you use headings properly (like the title of your page is in <h1></h1>, a subtitle in <h2></h2>, etc.) also, try to get a descriptive opening paragraph as close to your header as possible. search engine robots are lazy, and they don't want to have to read all the way to the end of your coding to find out what your site is about (i.e., if you have a ton of links listed at the top of your, robots will probably base your site information off the links, rather than what your site is about).

how you use links will also help in your rankings. for example, if you do something like "check out my <a href="LINK">skiing video</a> here," it will have better rankings than "check out my skiing video <a href="LINK">here</a>." try to use text links more often than you do graphic links (if you do use graphical links, apply titles & alt tags to them), as robots don't know how to read pictures.

it's all of those reasons and more that myspace.com is only #16 when you do a Google search for "social network." you'd expect them to be #1...

it's pretty tricky to optimize for both robots and human visitors. robots look for things basically to the exact opposite of what is attractive to people. you kinda have to find a "happy medium."

and finally, the best & easiest way to truly get popular is by getting reciprocal links from other websites. the more that link to you, the higher you'll climb. if you think there's a different way to get higher (if you found a "secret" or something), don't take that route. it's easy for Google to blacklist (and done without hesitation) your site, and once that's been done, there's no going back.
