My hair is medium - long right now, but I want it short. At the moment I just kinda let it hang and I dont do anything to it, but I want to start.

Bottomline, are fohawks a yay or nay? If not, what is good?

IMO, fauxhawks look better than full on mohawks, with the head shaved on the side and 10 bottles of gel in the thing holding it up. I say try it. If people give you weird faces and point and laugh you may not want to try it again.

I can tell you from expirience, gel only works really well if your hair is short.
After it gets to a certain point, hairspray would be the smarter way to go.
Plus, hairspray is a lot less work.
