“A New Kind of Date Rape,” defined “gray rape” as “sex that falls somewhere between consent and denial and is even more confusing than date rape because often both parties are unsure of who wanted what.”
A girl might say "no", but does she really mean it? So the guy goes on ahead and have sex with her, while in her mind, she's half saying no she doesn't want it, and the other half, she wants it. We learned about this two weeks ago in Womans Studies class. It's a whole big confusing issue. Another example would be if the girl were drunk, and had sex with some dude, and wakes up the next morning not remembering what happen, but wakes up naked in bed. She knows she had sex, and claims she got rape. But was she really rape? She was drunk, so she doesn't remember, if she gave consent or not. She tells her friends about her being rape, and her friends are like. "No you did not. Check out these pictures from last night, I mean it sure looks like you wanted it." The girl is confused and knows she did not want to have sex, but she was drunk. There lies the "gray" area of the term gray rape. |
