I have to note that while the anime is obviously Japanese, that doesn't necessarily make the characters as such.
1) Goku is an alien. Born from the planet Vegeta, the home of the Saiyans, Goku was sent to Earth in a very Superman fashion. Technically he cannot be asian. He could very well be similar to any race on Earth, since he clearly resembles a human in every way. 2) Bulma has blue hair. Asians characteristically have dark hair. More to the point, her and her father's company, Capsule Corps, is located in "West City" which could be interpreted as a western city, IE American. However Asia and America don't really exist in the Dragonball world. So differing characters by race is pointless. |

I've seen that actor, he was the kid from Lost that hoodwinked Locke (if you remember the episode... Locke was living with the pot farmers). He's just not at all Goku to me. My problem is with the choice overall, not the particular continent that the actor is from, if that makes sense. The same thing with Bulma. Bulma is the quintessential fiesty female character of the Dragonball verse. That actress is hardly umph enough for Bulma. |

Holy crap that IS the kid that tricked Locke from Further Instructions!!! Wow. I didn't even realize that. How pathetic am I? I think Emmy Rossum could pull off the Leia-like qualities of Bulma. She was remotely rebellious in Poseidon, but I honestly think she hasn't been in enough roles to really gauge her acting prowess. She could very well clinch it. I agree though about Chatwin. I'm not a fan really. But maybe he'll take off with it, who knows. |
