when does FTP come in to use?

is this the last thing i use after building my site, after i get a domain, when?

Like others before me have said, FTP comes into play when you want to put your files on your webspace.

Your index file is going to be one of your main files which has to be transferred from your PC to your domain.

There are two ways to transfer that index file, one is by using your file manager supported by cpanel, if you have that. Or you can use an FTP to make a connection with the host, and transfer the file.

I use Dreamweaver's Web Site Manager as my FTP, but you can use others such as smartFTP, cuteFTP, filezilla. All can be found on http://www.download.com/

so if you use Dreamweaver's Web Site Manager you wont need SmartFTP?

is like the other way around, if i use smartftp will i still need dreamweaver to design?
