The fact that people are always bitching about how we have horrible politicians, but isn't it us who elect them? Should one person or group of people choose our government, or continue the way we have been and let the people choose?

The fact that people are always bitching about how we have horrible politicians, but isn't it us who elect them? Because of the internalized election process, and because of the two-party system, to say that anyone truly "chooses" their government representatives is quite arbitrary. When a psychotic mugger offers you the barrel of a gun or the release of all your immediate material good, you couldn't possibly fabricate such an instance as a free "choice." In the case of American politics, it isn't quite different. An institution nominates two major candidates (which receive an obnoxious majority of all media coverage) within that institute's (and the infrastructures' that inform it) own self-interest. Then, the American public is permitted to vote for the puppet on the left, or the puppet on the right. Which side of the same shit coin would you like? |
