This goes out to everybody who has parents or grandparents or any form of relative that doesn't speak english too well. Do you ever find yourself speaking "engrish" with them (even though we can speak fluent english) because you think that they won't understand if you do speak in english?

For example:

Grandma: Where you go today?
Jane: I play basketbon with fren.

CANTOOOOOOOOOOO!!
I really wish i spoke it really well and also pay attention in class so I could read and write it! ):

But I definitely know what you're talking about in that heavy canto accent. Its like "Toy-san wa" or something right? I usually just nod and smile cause i can't understand them haha.

But my mom makes me speak chinese in my house but she knows what i'm talking about since i say it in english first. But when it comes to talking to my dad.. I'm like uhh, umm and like i bring the friken dictionary out just to show him what i mean. hahahaha.

i fail.

lol; no not toy san wah; that's like taiwanese or something no? since they live in china; they have the accent or something. I have to use the dictionary sometimes too when i just can't describe it to my parents. >.<

Toisanese (aka Taishanese) is a Cantonese dialect. My grandpa sometimes speaks using it, and I can usually understand him, but it just sounds weird because I'm so accustomed to standard Cantonese. My grandma and mom can speak it too. It'd sound so weird coming out of my own mouth since I've never tried.

I speak toisanese! _smile.gif Didn't think anyone else really did.

Whenever I'm on the phone with my grandparents we say exactly the same things... Hi, how are you, have you eaten yet?...
