Have you ever eaten something before, and then you either experience something (i.e. your senses) that makes you disgusted by that particular food and you vow never to eat it again? Your mind is constantly reminded of that experience when you see or think about the food, so you grow to dislike it. Same could go for eating something so much and then one day you mind makes you feel sick of eating it and now you feel nauseous or feel a dislike for that particular item.
For example, when I was younger, my mother would always make and pack for me these Jelly/Jam sandwiches for my school lunch. Of course this was back in preschool, kindergarten, and first grade. Anyway, one time during first grade I visited my half-sister's boyfriend's house and they were watching some gory horror movie on television (which I can't even remember what it was) and I guess the mass amount of blood traumatized me. I just couldn't eat those jelly sandwiches and think that they were good. I felt like I was eating bloody chunks of people or something. This went on for a couple years, and I would feel squeamish every time I went on a school field trip and had to eat those peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, or I just wouldn't eat anything at all. I think I eventually got over it by the time I entered middle school though. I started watching more horror movies and I realized that those sandwiches were just made of plain old jam. Ahah :P Silly me! I'll post my phobia for Vietnamese pho later ;x Anyone else have any food phobias, past or present? |

lol man I remember watching Matilda (pg movie) and I was like ew at that fudge cake part! But I got over it quickly lol. Aww, I like apple pie. haha but yea if you see people eat things in a disturbing way, it could make you squeamish!
I have a really sensitive nose, so when I was younger, my parents would take me to go eat pho (Vietnamese rice noodles) and the smell really bothered me... well more like the smell from the soup. I started getting dizzy and felt squeamish while I ate it, so I'd only have a tiny little bowl (one you'd put rice in) and I'd eat it because my parents forced me to. The smell and taste was really strong and odorous in a weird way. I couldn't stand it. This was probably back in middle school when it started. I can eat Instant Pho, since it tastes nothing alike (isn't even made in Vietnam. The instant one said made in Thailand.. lol!). Now I have a phobia of it and I remember my bf taking me to this pho place and they gave us a bown of soup, and I took a quick sip and it tasted like the soup from pho noodles! I had to gulp down a bunch of water to get rid of the taste. Now when I think of pho, I feel digusted. D: |
