K im confused here.
For the DS, if you have an R4 card do you need a Micro SD as well?
Or can you just have a Micro SD alone or an R4 alone??

You need both.

The R4 card looks like the regular cartridge that you buy for authentic games on the DS. Then you slip in the Micro SD into the R4 card. The Micro SD is where all your NDS game files are. Without it you'd have no games.

So if everything is stored on the Micro sd, then what's the point of the R4?

Btw are they still sold in the US? Supposedly nintendo was losing $ so they took them off the market...?

The micro SD is tiny (hence the name). The R4 card looks like a game cartridge. Without the R4 card you have no means of using the micro SD card as it doesn't fit anywhere in the DS.

Bottom line, it goes Micro SD card --> R4 card --> Game cartridge slot in your DS.

I don't know if the R4 card is still sold in the U.S., but the last time I went to Hong Kong, the prices for it went up the roof because the manufacturers were suffering some (obvious) legal problems and stopped production indefinitely. Nintendo is obviously losing money as long as the R4 card exists. And Nintendo does not make these R4 cards. Think about it, they are cards that you use so you can avoid buying real games.
