Bullshit Clients Options

Ok I really hate bullshit clients. Some guy just IMed me, on my personal AIM account, and I was on a conference call with another client and a developer so it took me a while to respond.

sirmoshalott: i really need you to respond a bit faster.

What the f**k?

sirmoshalott: i own eightohhthree.net
sirmoshalott: i need some work done

Good for you?

sirmoshalott: can i see some of your work?
pandora: i'm not accepting any more projects at this time
sirmoshalott: well you know someone?
sirmoshalott: im willing to pay top dollar
pandora: how much is "top dollar" to you?
sirmoshalott: im not going over 2000$

pandora: sorry i dont know anyone that will work for that low.
sirmoshalott: are you serious
pandora: very serious.
sirmoshalott: how much do you work for?

then he bumps up the price all the sudden:

sirmoshalott: you mean that people wont make you a web site for 20000$?
pandora: you might be able to find some low budget designers
pandora: i dont know any personally.
sirmoshalott: not 2000$ but 20000$
pandora: you said 2000 earlier
sirmoshalott: everyone locally around here sucks
sirmoshalott: i meant 20000

Uh.. flight risk alert. I'm pretty sure this guy meant 2000 and then added a 0 after I said that was low budget.

pandora: i dont know anyone that would want to work with you anyway
sirmoshalott: why?


pandora: you may want to change your attitude if you are looking for a designer to work with.

and holly i know you worked on this eightohthree site, or at least i'm pretty sure. i hope you didn't refer this guy to me.

The circle I run in, the designers I network with, and myself included all cater to mostly high-end clients. Since we do this for a living, and have to schedule our time carefully (to meet deadlines we already have) we just filter out the bullshit and low budget clients. So yeah, sometimes $2000 is not enough to perk our interests, because we could be spending that time working for someone who will pay 150% of that.


But sometimes I will work for $2000 if I have a lot of time, or if I have a particular bill I know I'm going to have to pay soon - but I can usually sense when someones just talking out of their asses, and I just didn't like this guy's attitude, nor would I have felt comfortable pawning him off on one of my friends, so partly, I just said that to scare him off.
