actually, gum makes you gain weight.
when you chew gum, you salivate. so, your digestive system is preparing to break down some food. however, youre obviously not swallowing your gum. yet your stomach begins crunching away and eventually you get hungry. hence, you eat =]

was there more detail to it?.... Do you begin a stage of catabolism, by chewing gum? From my understanding, as soon as you start to feel hungry, you've already began catabolism till you're no longer hungry again, which is after the process of catabolism.
