For Dani:
Okey doke, here is my big Country Night review (having youtubed all the performances, so this'll be in the order that I watched them, not necessarily in the order of broadcast/order of preference) Let me start by saying that overall, I actually liked tonight quite a lot more than most other country nights, simply because I think this year's batch is a lot more adept at adapting the material to suit them, so it's less 'deer in a headlights' than this week can be. Also, someone upped Paula's crack doseage this week, because she is simply round the bend. A vague disclaimer before we begin, by the way: I make no claim to any musical expertise, so don't look for me to critique them on sharp or flat notes or whatever malarky you crazy kids are into. On the bright side, you won't have to hear the word 'pitchy' every 30 seconds. Furthermore, I'm no Dolly Parton expert. Before I saw these performances, the only songs I knew were Jolene and I Will Always Love You (and that was the Whitney version), so these are my honest 'what I like' reviews, nothing technical, ok? Cool Anyway. Michael Well, he can totally sing, and the guy has come on a mile in the last two weeks. I didn't like it as much as last week, simply because I thought his song choice was so bang on then, and I'm not that familiar with Dolly Parton's repetoire, but yeah. Safe as hell and deservedly so. David A. Yeah, guy can sing. Next? Ok, in all seriousness, WHAT is this obesession about? He is just so absolutely BORING! Every performance is the same, balladballadballad, dorky smile, moneynotemoneynotemoneynote, dorky smile, blahblahblah: Kid will release an album, have one mildly successful ballad and then be consigined to bargain bins. Waste of a potential winner here. Brooke She is just the nicest person in the world, now isn't she? The charm that other people seem to get from Archuleta, I see in spades in Brooke. As far as this performance goes, I think we need to sound the air raid sirens and prepare for the apocalypse, because I'll be darned if I don't agree with Paula. I thought she had a nice connection with the song, and it was miles better than the last upbeat attempt she made, and this is from someone who didn't actually hate her version of 'Here Comes The Sun' Love this girl, though. Jason My favourite performance of his in a long time! Possibly because he isn't singing a song which requires some degree of foreign language skills, but who would have thought singing in words you actually understand would be a bonus? He won't win in a million years, but this was something I think his fans will enjoy, and there's no way he'll be in danger after last week's scare. David C. I love this guy. Serious mancrushage. Only his voice though, because I can no wonly visualize those horrifying baby alien photos of him from last week. Plus, he has one of those little tufty beards grown for pleasuring girls. ANYWAY. I kind of see where Simon was coming from about not being as good as last week, but I must disagree. I thought it was nice to see him do something a tad less theatrical and a little more... I don't really have a word, but it reminded me a lot of his Eleanor Rigby which I also adored, so there you go. This guy should win. Syesha The song choice was nauseatingly predictable. Seriously, seriosuly irritating. That said, I actually liked this a whole lot more than I was prepared to. She kept it simple in the beginning, and she does have just a lovely tone to her voice which made this memorable where Ramiele just wasn't. Of the two belting girls, I wouldn't have put my money on Syesha coming into the Top 12, but after this, I hope I'm wrong. Bad hair though. Very bad. Ramiele Oh, my. Ok, I'm not a giant myself, so this isn't a slur, but MIDGETS SHOULDN'T WEAR THINGS WITH A HIGH WASTE. Did she learn NOTHING from last week's debacle? Lucky she has a pretty face, really. Anyway. Stumpy the eighth dwarf has just sang her last song on AI, which is a shame, because it wasn't very good. Honestly, I haven't the faintest idea what she sang, because I got bored enough after 30 seconds to open a new tab and start searching for Carly. It's SUCH a waste, because she has a gorgeous voice, she just stubbornlyrefuses to actually sing well. The biggest let down contestant of Season 7. Bye. Carly I like her so much when I'm not looking at her. Not because of her tatoos or anything, but simply because I think that out of all the contestants, it's Carly by a MILE who is worst at conecting with the songs. If you watch the performances, it's like she is so focussed on sounding good that she just sings things one line at a time, and then moves on to the next note. It's not a song so much as a succession of pretty noises. And they are pretty, don't get me wrong, it's just that I wish she would let go a little and have some fun. As far as this specific performance, I think I'm in the minority here, but I didn't like it as much as last week. It ws another one that I can't really remember that well, probably because of the lack of emotion. Kristy Lee Oh, go away. She just isn't on a par with the others. She wasn't bad; Simon was right, it was pleasant enough, but she just doesn't cut it anymore. Sadly, I don't think she's going anywhere. However, I did like the song, though, so points for that. --- There we have it. A good night, I feel, although who pissed in Simon's Cheerios this morning? Normally I like him, but I felt more in touch with Randy tonight. How odd. Yeah. To sum up, I thought Dave Cook, Michael, and Brooke were the big winners, with Jason and Syesha not far behind, then Carly. David A comes next, simply because no matter how much I don't care for him, he can sing, and then Ramiele and Kristy. In terms of the Bottom 3, I'm pretty sure Ramiele is going to be in there somewhere, and I'd also go with Carly as a second choice, just because I think she's slipping, although she may still survive based on post-Overmeyer votes going her way... For a third person, I find it hard to call this one, but I'll go ahead and say that it's a toss up between Kristy and Syesha, simply because there is a lot of talent going on. Wouldn't be too surprised if it was Brooke though, but she doesn't deserve it, and won't go home... Ramiele will. Over and out. |
