If you have a Facebook, you probably know about the group called "BRB, IM NOT REALLY GOING ANYWHERE, BUT NEITHER IS THIS CONVERSATION" (click). When you say "brb," are you actually going somewhere temporarily or pretending to be away? Same for "lol," "lmao," and "rofl": are you really amused or just saying that because you have no better response?
I always mean the acronyms that I use. |

"Lol" is what you say when you don't know what else to say.
Person 1: "omg my mom just died and my girlfriend's pregnant" Person 2: "lol" |
