If you have a Facebook, you probably know about the group called "BRB, IM NOT REALLY GOING ANYWHERE, BUT NEITHER IS THIS CONVERSATION" (click). When you say "brb," are you actually going somewhere temporarily or pretending to be away? Same for "lol," "lmao," and "rofl": are you really amused or just saying that because you have no better response?
I always mean the acronyms that I use. |

I only catch myself saying lol when i'm not loling is when people are typing out a story and I respond with lol in between their lines. But I usually go hahah or I LOL'D, when i do laugh or smile at their comments.
I use to do the BRB thing but i just usually go away unless i care about who i'm talking to, then i let them know. |
