On August 26th, no later than 2359, I am required to report into the Marine Corps' Central Command on MacDill Air Force Base, for transport to Baghdad, to fulfill the requirements essential to mission accomplishment on a 7 month deployment to Iraq.
I don't give two shits about politics, although I've been briefed on a good amount. I see dollar signs with this deployment. 20 grand. SUGOI!!! And to make it even better, I'm going to fill an individual augment billet, not sure what I'll be doing yet. I'm probably going to be filling a security slot, which (I've been told) is pretty fun. Damn, I'm excited. The training begins in March, and I'll get to take about 45 days of leave (vacation) before I head to Tampa for check in. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Are you going to be able to contact people back home on a regular basis? Internet access? My friend's boyfriend's in the Airforce and he was deployed to UAE a month or so ago. I know she's constantly looking at her phone at the same time every single day waiting for him to call her.
I never really know what to say to someone that's about to be deployed. Is "good luck" okay? Or "be safe"? |
