Flirting is a beautiful art if used the right way. Have you tried it? Eventually at some point in your friendship if you continue to like him you'll have to tell him, even if you keep dropping hints. Has he shown intrest in you (in that way)?
 He isnt a mind reader and after all that effort to get him to stop being mad at you it would be foolish to not tell him how you feel. Its going to be hard, yea but in the end the reward is sometimes greater than the risk.  Talk to the boy, you never know he might "like you" back.
