Like steph says it really depends on the girl.
Ive had friends say they bleed and scream (sorry to be so graphic), and I've had others say the actual penetration didn't hurt at all. Usually if your involved in sports and things like gymnastics, cheerleading, and dancing you tend to tear your hymen yourself. So to answer your question sometimes it hurts sometimes it doesn't.
