what is the differences/advantages to using a subdomain (music.mysite.com) rather than just having a slash and the page name (mysite.com/music) (what is it called when you use the slash?) responses appreciated. thanks!

Subs give off a more professional appearance than directories (the slash thing). But I suggest buying a top level domain name (www.mysite.com), its the most professional way to do it, and it will get you more hits.
