A lot of times I hear people complaining about how Kanye stole Daft Punk's song and made it his own. I just don't understand why these people are so offended due to the fact that Daft Punk also sampled a song to come up with Harder Better Faster Stronger and Daft Punk is in the video. Plus Daft Punk sampled plenty of songs ( a majority of the artists being black).

So my question to you is, is sampling good or bad?

I personally like sampling, you can take a particular part of a song and use it repeatedly to make a hit song. I.E. SWV - Right Here (Human Nature Remix) sampled from Michael Jackson - Human Nature.

The only thing that annoys me about people using other people's work like that is if they do it in every song. People have been doing cover songs for ages, and not enough people have had an issue for artists to stop doing that.

If an artist blatanly samples another work in search of a hit, and not because it adds to the song or builds their own creativity, then it's stupid. I guess in a sense I look at is as a form of inspiration. And instead of trying to copy that song or taking one note out and claiming it as your own (Vanilla Ice's Ice Ice Baby, anyone?) you might as well just sample it and use it to help your own song's sound.

It does annoy the hell out of me, though, at how many people are doing. Yeah, there's lots of cover songs out there, but if you're going to just use the music or beat or whathaveyou you might as well just redo the song in it's entirety.
