Well, I have read an article at http://mugglenet.com and I have become semi-convinced that Snape is portraying a facade to all but Dumbledore. I also agree that Dumbledore was not begging for HIS life in his death scene, but for Harry's (two brooms = Snape's not an idiot).

Evil. I think Snape was a bullied, unsociable kid growing up, who loved Lily but watched her ride off into the sunset with the hero Quidditch player James. Of course, anyone would turn to the dark side of the force after that bs, but I think after death dealing for so long and Volde's fall, he wanted to atone for his sins. He stayed completely loyal to Dumble to try and forgive himself. But honest now, leaving the fate of the wizarding world on Harry's shoulders to face Volde, I think he still wished the worst for the son of his bitter enemy.
