Does everything happen for a reason? Options

I read this question not long ago online. I have been thinking about it so much since then.
I have heard that SO many times in my life as, I am sure, you have too.
But, is it true? If you really think about it does everything happens for a reason?

before we can debate the question i think we need to define what u are asking. what do u mean by reason? do u mean reason as in everything is caused by something else, or do u mean there is some divine reason? idk if u get what i'm saying, it's in my head but idk how to word it exactly.

i'm assuming u mean does everything happen as part of a bigger purpose?

i mean yea, everything happens for a reason because of that kind of universe we live in. if i knock my drink off the desk, the reason was because my elbow hit it, the reason my elbow hit it was i was reaching for my ipod, the reason i was reaching for my ipod was because i wanted to listen to christmas music, the reason i wanted to listen to christmas music was because i saw a commercial for a chrsistmas cd on tv, the reason i saw that on tv is because it's the holiday season, the reason is the holiday season blah blah blah ect.

so i don't know, this can be a really complex question. i don't know if u are meaning for it to be that or u are just meaning it in the way little teenage girls love to refer to the phrase of everything happening for a reason so they can take some comfort when their crush rejects them.

i think belief in god or lack there of has a lot to do with what u think about this.
