I believe metal is because of the dynamics involved.

Such bands as Dragon Force, Lamb of God, Mastodon, Arch Enemy and such. Debate.

Yes, this is a debate. Why are such genre's so great? What about them makes them better than others, and why?

I think instrumental Jazz because of the improvisational possibilities not afforded to many other types of music. The incorporation of different types of sounds, like trumpet with piano in the background. Miles Davis was great, but that's such a generalization. Favorites as of now would be Pat Metheny and Chick Corea. But as to Jake's debate, if you can really call it that...

Sure, heavy metal bands do occasionally have great "dynamics" involved with their music, but what is music without harmony? I wont say that everyone hears Heavy Metal music and relates it to pure noise, but I do and many other people do. Drums alone do not make great music. Good music is a compilation of different, orchestrated sounds that compliment eachother. Many Heavy Metal bands, particularly scream-o bands, neglect this rule and rely heavily on noise.

I sound like a huge hypocrit. I rarely listen to Jazz music, it's mostly alternative rock music from the early to mid 90's, or classic rock from the drug revolution. As of right now, I am listening to Nothin' Song by Alice in Chains, and they're making a lot of noise, but I like it still.

Emo and scream-o both suck monkey balls. Debate that.

I do not like Jazz AT ALL but honestly, jazz is the foundation of good music.
