Ok so I just read a few posts in mod perf concerning mods not being able to answer questions about the tracker.
I understand that Jusun is the one that made the thing, and only he would know how to answer certain questions because no one else on staff is... educated enough about the subject... but dont you guys think that come time the next hiring round, you could try and find people that have a better working knowledge of the IT aspect of the site, as well as how to use the forum application expertly? (proactively, because i understand that your perfect mod squad may or may not apply for modship) i mean even if they dont have a lot of posts, maybe you can give the person a "special" status for only IT related issues? |

Before you read my reply, I am going to tell you how you should take this post. Do not take it as an attack on staff. I'm not yelling. I'm not upset. I know that often times I'm so blunt that people get offended. Take my words exactly for what they are. There is no hidden puzzle/message that needs to be solved or understood.
These are my comments/concerns regarding all of your posts: I'm not going to change my personality for a website that I volunteer on. Many may have a problem with this. I'm not going to become more of an a-hole, but I may become less of one. This will only happen if it happens naturally. All I'm saying is that there will be no Josh metamorphosis when I get hired. I'm not going to hatch out of an cocoon and become this "tactful" (a word used far to often on this site) social butterfly. As far as being hired during a "hiring season" goes, I will not be hired during a "hiring season". Every hiring season I have been in sucked. Every single one sucked. I'm not going to apply. I'm not even going to post in the thread. In my mind, hiring seasons are a joke and will always will be a joke. Hiring seasons are biased and full of bullshit. Maybe this one will be different, but I don't care. I'm not going to be there to find out. I really don't care if I'm hired, but I will do my job if I'm hired. If you have a problem with me not being ecstatic about this "opportunity", too bad. I will always have the idea that I am nothing more than a member. Being on staff doesn't change anything. I'm not better than anyone else, and no-one else is better than me. This is volunteer work, and I will always have this attitude. I'm on these forums fairly often and will spend time working on them, but I will not give a damn if someone starts saying that I don't contribute enough. If I don't get around to doing everything one big mouthed member thinks I should be doing either:
I would not apologize. Real life is more important than a website. I have see so many people struggle to be "active". I'm not going to be one of them. I will however try my best to let everyone know when I will not be available to do my volunteer work. In the end I will always do my best. I know plenty about the information technology field. I make a decent living knowing about it. I work for a CPA firm, they appreciate my work, and pay me well for it. When it comes to questions about technology (especially networking), I probably know my stuff better than anyone on this website (aside from Ju-sun) and will continue to learn more and more (as it is my real life job to do so). We all have areas of expertise, and this one is mine. |
