Come one, come all! In the same vein as the Official Film Snobs Club, exclusionist attitudes come free with every top 20 favorite albums or artists list posted! If you feel like you should be entitled to tell people to never listen to music again, then apply. As someone that has been telling people to listen to better music for years now, I will let you know how qualified you aren't to push your taste in music onto others. I hated your favorite band before you knew they existed; I know what I'm doing.
If I like the cut of your jib, you can tell people what bands to listen to and why the music they listen to is just recycled, trite bullshit. We can also exchange soulseek usernames. <3 So, as I said, post your Top 20 favorite ALBUMS or ARTISTS. I'm not terribly interested in hearing about your favorite songs. Chances are those change all the time. Artists and albums offer something a bit more consistent. We will be like a bowel irritation with a dope record collection. 1 2 3! 1 2 3! ALBUMS 1. Death to False Screamo compilation (N/A) 2. Pretty Hot / Ghost Mice split (Anti-Creative, 2005) 3. Andrew Jackson Jihad / Ghost Mice split (Plan-It-X, 2007) 4. Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains - All Power to the Wingnuts! E.P. (Spare Change, ?) 5. I Hate Myself - 2 Songs (No Idea, 2000) 6. Ghost Mice - The Debt of the Dead (Plan-It-X, 2004) 7. Actually, I had every intention of posting a list, but I got distracted and never got around to it.
But as I am a procrastinator extraordinare, here is a list for you (in no particular order). 1. The New Pornographers- Twin Cinema -You've establshed your distaste for power-pop, but nevertheless, this album is power-pop perfection, and I love it. 2. Pavement- Brighten the Corners -I don't care that Slanted and Enchanted is more acclaimed, I prefer this one. Although you really can't go wrong with Pavement at all. 3. Regina Spektor- Mary Ann Meets The Gravediggers And Other Short Stories -Yeah, it's technically a compilation, but I prefer it as an album to the rest of Regina's stuff. Her most recent album isn't worth acknowledging. 4. Jens Lekman- Oh You're So Silent Jens -Swedish God. Mhm. 5. Sonic Youth- Goo 6. Yann Tiersen- Yann Tiersen and Shannon Wright -I discovered this particular album fairly recently, but it struck me more than most anything else has recently. 7. The Postal Service- Give Up -It doesn't matter what you think of Ben Gibbard; I still adore this album. 8. The Magnetic Fields- I 9. Joanna Newsom- The Milk-Eyed Mender -No, I don't read Pitchfork. I took a couple of listens to appreciate her voice, but it's amazing. 10. Laura Veirs- Year of Meteors 11. Ted Leo and the Phamacists- Hearts of Oak 12. The Notwist- Neon Golden 13. My Bloody Valentine- Loveless 14. Modest Mouse- The Moon and Antarctica 15. The Cure- Boys Don't Cry 16. France Gall- Poupée de Son 17. The Shins- Oh, Inverted World 18. The Books- Lost and Safe 19. Fiona Apple- Tidal -What can I say, it got me through my radio rejection period. 20. Neutral Milk Hotel- In the Aeroplane Over the Sea -Sure, it's cliche at this point, but still lovely. I figured albums would be more interesting than just a random selection of 20 bands I like, but it's really hard because a lot of my favorite songs aren't on what I'd consider to be my favorite overall album by an artist. |
