Are there any movies, books, jokes, etc that you encountered as a child and didn't understand until recently?
I love the movie, Alice in Wonderland as a kid and even now. But for different reasons, I had no idea she was on drugs! |

found this list, didn't make it myself
QUOTE *The white rabbit has bloodshot eyes- too much pot?
*Alice goes "down the rabbit hole"- term for using drugs *Multi-colored lights as she's falling- Ectasy/shrooms make you see different colors. **Alice gets smaller from drinking whatever was in the bottle- Acid, maybe? **Getting bigger after eating from the box- Calming her high making her feel bigger. *Alice cries creating tons of water- Shrooms can make you see water and make you feel surrounded by water. *Tweedle Dee and Dum try to warn Alice not to "follow the white rabbit" even though she's curious. *The pulsing 'R' on the calender in Dee and Dums story probaly has some meaning... Haven't figured it out yet. *The catepiller is smoking from a freaking HOOKA for crying out loud... *Alice cant tell the catapiller who she is because she doesnt know- drugs make you kinda distant... *Alice has memory loss- Happens a lot with drugs *Slurred speech (trying to say exactly but it comes out "Exactily")- Drugs usually slow you down and slur your speech *She eats mushrooms- They made her big and small... Need I say more? *Cheshire cat- " You may have noticed I'm not all there myself"... By now you guys should get the picture *Alice doesnt want to be around mad people- People who are upset or sad usually bring you down and make your trip pretty bad. *When she's trying to have tea with the mad hatter, he pours "sugar" in her cup and she tries to drink the tea, and her nose is covered in it- Cocaine anyone? *There is no concept of time- The mad hatter insist the white rabbits watch is two days late... The watch doesnt tell the date, just the time. And the rabbit thinks he constantly late, but never says why. When you are on shrooms time is so weird cause you cant grasp it. *Alice cries in the woods- She realizes she doesnt like drugs. My boyfriend did the same thing after his first time taking X... It rids you of your seritonin or something... *Cards are different colors, then back to normal- X and shrooms make you see colors. *Alice tries to escape her problems(the queen) by using the mushrooms... |

Well all those made sence, I just never though Alice would be on drugs, although I knew their was something funny about that caterpiller.. Eh, not so much. A lot of the list is just as off base as saying Alice was on LSD. 1. Cannabis didn't have common use in England during the time. 2. The term "down the rabbit hole" was coined by Carroll, it wasn't until later that the term was associated with drug use. 3. Ecstasy? MDMA wasn't synthesized until over five decades later. It took several more decades before the drug was found to be recreational. Shrooms? Eh. 4. LSD? No. Already debunked that idea. 5. Using food to calm a high? Yeah, definitely not an 1865 sort of thing. 6. Now it seems like they're just grasping at straws. 7. Refer to #2. 8. Great, get back to us on that. But, make sure you're not reading Alice in Wonderland, cause they aren't even in that book. 9. Tobacco is commonly smoked out of a Hookah. Nothing particularly psychoactive about it. 10. It's one of the main themes of the book: Identity. Don't insult the philosophy here. Alive really doesn't know who she is. 11. Strange new world, strange new rules. Scary too. 12. The stammer in Alice's speech is much more likely a reflection of the authors real life stammer. Further, it highlights a theme of communication. 13. Fantasy world. 14. Theme of madness. 15. Yeah, cause the only reason you wouldn't want to go "among mad people" is because they could harsh your mellow. 16. Cocaine was just introduced into European culture in the powdered form around the time of publication. I highly doubt such a reference was being made here. 17. Themes of time. 18. She's a little girl. She's scared out of her mind! 19. Huh? 20. Kind of become a device in the story, silly head. If you look hard enough, you can find whatever you want. |
